Baron Fig Yellowgold Confidant

Baron Fig Yellowgold Confidant Notebook

Add some color to your day…

So a little while back I looked at the Raspberry Honey Confidant from Baron Fig and it has been an excellent companion for trying my hand at bullet journaling. If you have been looking at the standard edition Confidant but wanted a little more color, then the latest release should be right up your alley. The lineup now comes in the following formats:

  • Yellowgold ConfidantCharcoal and Light Gray:
3 Paper Types – Dot Grid, Blank, and Ruled
    3 Paper Sizes:
    Pocket (3.5″ X 5″ • 160 Pages)
    Flagship (5.4″ X 7.7″ • 192 Pages)
    Plus (7″ X 10″ • 208 Pages)
  • Yellowgold, Blue Slate, Fig Wine:
1 Paper Type – Dot Grid
    1 Paper Size – Flagship (5.4″ X 7.7″ • 192 Pages)

The Confidant continues to shine – I tried a little light watercolor and Copic marker on the pages and it held up well to the added abuse. The “Yellowgold” color that Baron Fig sent over is true to it’s name and a great match for LAMY’s yellow Safari or a Porsche 911 if you have one sitting around.

While doing a little sketching the lay flat feature is perfect, allowing me to sketch without fighting the book to stay open. The book does as a result have a harder time closing flat, and it occurred to me that a slip case would be a great way to solve for this instead of the box it comes shipped in – providing both protection and quick access when needed. The heavyweight paper is great for sketching and my Pilot Hi-Tec-C worked perfectly with the slightly toothy surface – no bleeding or snags.

The fabric choice is nice and bright – while adding some style over the usual paper covers from other brands, and the end paper does a great job hiding the seams on the inside cover. There is however a slight wrinkle on my spine – perhaps a slightly stronger glue for the binding would help once the spine is broken in and getting daily use.

One thing I would love to see is plain and ruled versions of the colored Flagship sizes and these new colors added to the Plus size offering. Beyond that it’s a great addition to my sketch notebooks, and priced in line with the usual suspects (Leuchtturm, Moleskine, and Rhodia.) at $18/ea for the Flagship size.

No Porsches were harmed during the writing of this review.

Full Disclosure: The notebook was sent my way at no charge by the folks at Baron Fig for review purposes.
