Christmas in June…

When does a hobby become an addiction?

IMG_0425I think today may have been that no going back moment…what do you think? It started when the new InkDrop package arrived in May from the Goulet Pen Company.  I loved how Platinum’s Mix-Free Sunny Yellow shaded in my Pilot Parallel test. The next day I saw the same ink in a beautiful Tree ink test by Pira Urosevic (@PiraU) on Twitter and knew I needed a bottle. One thing lead to another and next thing I knew there was a box on my doorstep….a very heavy box.

One thing to point out for those of you not familiar with the Goulet Pen Company – imagine a NASCAR pit crew for your pen hobby – that’s these guys. The packing is insane, there is always a personal note from the wonderful Goulet minion who processed my order and to top it off – a Tootsie Pop.

As for the InkDrop program I would highly recommend joining the club – 5 samples a month plus a discount program on select items – win-win if you ask me!

So here is what this weeks early self-Santa Christmas present contained:

Pens –

  • Noodler’s Konrad Flex Nib in a very cool  Mars Red Pearl
  • Noodlers’s Nib Creaper in Arizona (a yellow orange swirl)
  • Jinhao x750 in Shimmering Sands (holy glitter disco Batman!)

I wanted to try the other two flex nibs from Noodler’s as I already had an Ahab and a Charlie – I’m excited to see how they stack up. I really liked the Jinhao X450 and 159 as an affordable entry level pen so the X750 seemed like a good choice.

IMG_0426Pads/Notebooks –

  • Goulet’s awesome Notebook Sampler Pack – includes 7 assorted pocket notebooks from Apica, Banditapple, Clairefontaine, Rhodia, Midori and one of their newer brands, Leuchtturm1917.

I was looking for a way to try out a few paper types and see what I liked best – this seemed like a great way to check out a few brands in an affordable way before investing in some of the larger A4 sizes. These will also be great for popping in my bag when I am out shooting photos or hiking.

Ink –

  • (2) Lamy Special Edition 2015 Copper Orange
  • Platinum Mix-Free Sunny Yellow
  • Sheaffer Skrip Blue-Black
  • Diamine Twilight
  • De Atramentis Hyacinth
  • De Atramentis Cucumber
  • Noodler’s Habanero
  • Noodler’s Bad Blue Heron

Ok I went a little overboard…but –

The Copper Orange is a limited run so I decided to get two bottles (I have the matching Lamy Al-Star so that seems justified). The Hyacinth and Sunny Yellow were in the May InkDrop and I found both amazing on paper. The rest were already in my cart from window shopping over the past two weeks – but I can quit anytime, I swear!

I will follow up with some reviews over the next few weeks – hopefully this keeps me busy for a while! #InkAddict #No12StepProgram

  1. You’ve gotta let me know how the scents on the De Atramentis inks are! I’ve had some hits and some misses. And, now I’m definitely getting the paper sampler on my next purchase 🙂 Happy Christmas in June! 🙂

    1. I would describe the Cucumber as if the scent was made into a perfume – it seems to have some other floral notes that you may not expect… not bad but not expected I guess. The Hyacinth is fantastic – strong but not overpowering not to mention an incredible color to boot!
